Prof J A. Kayode Makinde
Prof Makinde, emeritus professor of Political Science, Religion and Administration is one of Africa’s finest pioneers of innovation and excellence in Africa’s tertiary education. He was the 2nd President of the first Private University in Nigeria; Babcock University. As the President of Babcock University, Makinde was able to provide more access to more indigent students through the “Adopt a Student scholarship scheme”, he raised the enrolment from 3500 to 10,000 students within the space of seven years, he increased the University balance sheet by over 850%, worked assiduously to expand the University network of development partners and one of the evidence of that effort is the strong productive partnership with Medical Bridges Inc.
Prior to joining Babcock University, he worked as the Faculty Officer of Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria. His contributions to the development of Universities in Africa was recognized in 2011 by the All African Student Union who conferred on him the prestigious Kwame Nkrumah Leadership Award and on the University; the Best Private University in Africa. Prof. Kayode has also been commended by the US Legislative Black Caucus for pioneering innovation and excellence in higher education in Africa. He is a member of the African Leadership Hall of Fame.
